Have you ever watched the famous Discovery Channel show called Shark Week? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see the ultimate predator up close and personal? Let’s go Shark fishing!!!
Here in Islamorada, the Sports Fishing Capital of the World, we can offer a large variety of 1st class Shark fishing. Sharks of all shapes and sizes can be found right here in Islamorada just minutes from the dock. What kind of sharks do we have here? Bonnet Head, Nurse, Lemon, Black tip, Bull, Spinner, Hammerhead and an occasional Tiger which is the true trophy giant of our shallow water world. Can you imagine a 10 footer sliding up to the front of the boat in less than 4 feet of water? It is a hair raising experience, trust me!!
Here in Florida Keys, we have warm water temperatures for most of the year, which allows us to fish year round for Sharks. The only exception would be a wicked cold front in the winter when the water temps can drop well below 70 degrees.
Shark fishing may be one of the most rewarding fishing charters available with a catch ratio much greater than some of our other famous sport fish species. Sharks are capable of putting any angler to task as these fish are big, mean, powerful, unpredictable and most of all EXCITING!!
How can you fish for sharks? Realistically, any way you want!! The shallow waters of Islamorada and the Florida Keys let’s us target them with live or dead bait, artificial lures, and flies. Would you believe Sharks eat flies? Check out our Islamorada Shark Fly tournament in March 2010.
In addition to being the most feared and dangerous predator in the ocean, Sharks are really a spectacular game fish and a wonderful creature serving their purpose in the food chain. Catch and release is the only way we Shark fish.
The most fearsome animal in the Florida Keys fishing arena has to be the SHARK!! Inshore, Offshore, Flats, Backcountry, and Gulf of Mexico fishing areas all have SHARKS. There are many types of sharks found here in the Florida Keys. Leaving from La Siesta Marina, in the heart of Islamorada, this can give you access to some close to home SHARKIN!! Did you know you can catch a six foot Lemon or Bull Shark in water less than 18′ deep in the Islamorada Backcountry?
